Participants in the Six Dots INTERGEN workshop in Turkey perform a song
reclaiming their rights following a role-play situation. This song is actually a
protest song which complains about barriers on the streets. The participants
established a group called Side-walk Activists. Their purpose is to warn Mayors,
drivers, tradesmen and everyone who may obstruct walking areas. The canes are
used for rhythm and they call this the 'Rhythm of Freedom'. These are the words
in English:
Hey! Mayor, look at us,
Why is there a tree in front of us?
In 3-5 meters after I pass,
Bang! into a billboard I crash.
Hey! Authorities, look please,
Why is my cane hindered on the streets?
In 3-5 meters avoiding things,
One big deep whole broke both my knees.
Hey! Tradesman, look at us,
Why do you hinder us with your box?
In 3-5 meters after I pass
Chairs, tables, plus, plus, plus…
Hey! Driver, look at us,
Why park your car in front of us?
In 3-5 meters after I pass,
Bang! I crash into a big bus.
My blind friend, open your eye!
Listen to these words, listen to this guy:
Take your cane and raise it to the sky,
Seek your own solution and don’t cry.
