New photos have been added presenting the EBU/INTERGEN conference at the Autonomic Salon in Paris.
Each generation has to deal with its own obstacles, but also has its own know-how. So how can we bring different generations together so that knowledge and experience are shared ? Which tools and methodologies are best suited to this venture ? The INTERGEN project is being developed to look at HOW this can be achieved to link and empower junior and senior people with visual disabilities.
The project is designed and conducted by the European Blind Union (EBU), a non-governmental organisation with 25 years' experience in promoting the interests of blind and partially-sighted Europeans. It is funded by the Education and Culture DG of the European Commission and involves five partners from the EBU network : the German Federation of the Blind and Partially Sighted (DBSV), the Italian Union of the Blind and Partially Sighted (UIC), the Italian Institute for Research, Training and Rehabilitation (IRIFOR), the Turkish Federation of the Blind, and the Turkish Six Dots Foundation.
Young visually impaired people have an excellent grasp of new technologies which would greatly benefit their senior peers. In turn, senior visually impaired people confidently go about their essential daily tasks in a way that younger people could learn from. A valuable exchange between the two groups would therefore benefit all.
Practice workshops with junior and senior visually impaired participants and professional trainers were held by each partner organisation in Germany, Italy and Turkey between April and June 2009.
The resulting model of knowledge exchange will be tested in a final workshop and will be disseminated through training and rehabilitation centres, youth organisations and elderly people’s homes. Model guidelines will also be made available on this website.
